Cyber security is a dynamic field with constant development. There are numerous players who deal with the opportunities and risks of this area and develop new products and solutions. We at the ISSS are following this development closely and would like to offer you a brief overview of some of the sites and articles worth reading.

There are several organisations and associations in Switzerland that are active in the field of security and can serve as a resource for our members:

The Center for Security Studies (CSS) at ETH Zürich

The CSS is a center of competence for Swiss and international security policy. It offers security policy expertise in research, teaching, and consulting activities. Good examples of articles are:

• Article on AI Governance and AI politics (Artificial Intelligence, Forward-Looking Governance and the Future of Security )
• Book examining new and challenging political aspects of cyber security (Cyber Security Politics), edited by Myriam Dunn Cavelty and Andreas Wenger with the contribution of several authors. Note in particular on the AI topic chapter 5 (Artificial intelligence and the offense-defense balance in cyber security)

Multimedia Signal Group of the EPFL

The Multimedia Signal Group of the EPFL is working among other topics on the utilisation of AI for fake media

The regulatory proposal aims to provide AI developers, deployers and users with clear requirements and obligations regarding specific uses of AI. At the same time, the proposal seeks to reduce administrative and financial burdens for business, in particular small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The regulation could enter into force in the second half of 2022 in a transitional period. Details can be found here

  Machine learning is fragile and relatively exposed to hacking as described in this article in Toward Data Science by Alex Poliakov (How to attack machine learning,). Forced misclassification and adversarial reprogramming, even on black box algorithm, builds the ground for circumvention of controls based on AI.
